 Join us for an outdoor adventure at different locations in York County each week as we explore to see what birds are in the area.  These are informal walks and anyone with an interest in nature is welcome to attend, regardless of skill level or membership status.  In fact, these walks are an excellent opportunity to learn about birding and nature. There are always some more experienced members on the walk who are  eager to share their knowledge.  No registration required.

Bird Walk Schedule for October 2022

Thursday, Oct 6 at Lake Williams
  • Meeting Location: Meet at the bathrooms at the Boat Launch parking area via Water Street in Jacobus. 
  • Time: 8:00 AM
  • Notes:  We will explore the woodlands bordering Nixon CP and may walk as far as the new trail down stream of the ongoing dam replacement.

Thursday, Oct 13th at Nixon County Park
  • Meeting Location: Enter the park and turn left before the park office. Park in the lot next to the creek. 
  • Time: 8:00 AM
  • Notes: We will explore the wetlands and old field next to the woods.

Saturday, Oct 22nd at Spring Valley Park
  • Meeting Location:  Park at the first parking lot on maintenance Road 5. Location on google maps: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.8255591,-76.6497054,611m/data=!3m1!1e3.
  • Time: 8:00 AM
  • Notes: This walk will make a nice loop with Maintenance Road 2. Note stream crossing may require some balance. A pair of walking poles will be available.


Thursday, Oct 27th at Pinchot SP Quaker Day Use area.
  • Meeting Location: Meet at the right most paved lane to the lake, Location on google maps: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.0723164,-76.8973879,17z.

  • Notes: ​We will walk along the lake in the direction of the dam.

 Thursday, Nov 3rd at Heritage Rail Trail Glatfelter's Station Road

  • Notes: We will walk towards Seven Valleys in a variety of habitats.


Thursday, Nov 10th at UMPC Wellness Trail

  • Notes: This 2-mile walk will have a variety of habitats near urban area.


Saturday, Nov 19th at Rocky Ridge County Park
  • Meeting Location: Meet at the bathrooms at the first parking area.
  • Time: 8:00 AM
  • Notes: The new paved trail to the rear lot should be finished. If we stay out past 11 am the Hawk Watch may have some activity.

Thursday, Nov 24th - Thanksgiving Day
  • Meeting Location: No Bird Walk today.

Other Information:
  • The bird walks typically last 2-3 hours, but you are welcome to leave at any time - these are informal walks.  
  • No registration is required -  Just show up and bird.
  • All walks are weather-permitting. Cancellations will be announced on the York Bird Chat on WhatsApp or you can call Chuck Berthoud at (717) 608-2614
  • Be prepared to do some mild hiking on unpaved trails at most locations.
